This is general information, not veterinary advice. Vaccination protocols vary by country, brand of vaccine and your pet's individual risk. Always follow the schedule your own vet recommends. Pawfile is an admin tool for keeping those records and reminders organised — it does not diagnose or treat.

Common questions

How often does my dog need a booster?
In the UK most adult dogs have an annual booster appointment. Leptospirosis is normally given every year, while distemper, hepatitis and parvovirus are usually given every three years within that yearly check. Your vet decides the exact protocol for the vaccine brand they use.
How often does my cat need a booster?
Cats usually have an annual booster covering cat flu and feline panleukopenia, with feline leukaemia included for cats that go outside. Some practices move low-risk indoor cats to a longer interval for some components.
What happens if the booster is late?
If a booster lapses beyond the interval your vaccine brand allows, the practice may need to restart the primary course with two injections a few weeks apart. Boarding kennels and insurers can also treat cover as interrupted, so it is worth booking as soon as you notice.
How long before boarding should the booster be given?
Most kennels and catteries want vaccinations completed at least 14 days before arrival, and kennel cough often needs a similar gap. Always check the individual establishment's rule before you book.
